COVID-19 and our Protocols

The safety of our pupils and staff are our primary focus during the COVID-19 pandemic, and as such we have implemented a Workplace Plan to clearly communicate our protocols. All pupils, parents, and visitors should familiarise themselves with the following
  • Arrival at school

    1. All staff will be at school by 06h45.
    2. Entrance gates will be opened for parents from 6:30am to 7h35am.
    3. Parents are required to ask their child/ children the health questions as indicated on Annexure A. Children should not be brought to school if any of the answers are in the affirmative.
    4. Parents will enter at the allocated gate on a drop and go basis and proceed to the drop off zone.
    5. The child must have a face mask before exiting the vehicle.
    6. When the child alights from the vehicle, their temperature will be screened by a trained staff member and have their temperature recorded on a register in the classrooms.
    7. If the child’s temperature is 38 °C or above, the parent will be instructed to take their child back home. The parent is requested to keep the class teacher informed of their child’s health.
    8. If the child’s temperature measures below 38°, the pupil will proceed through the entry gate where a foot operated sanitiser will be available to sanitise their hands.
    9. Parents will exit through a second gate from the allocated zone.
    10. After entry, the child will proceed directly to their classroom and sit down at their designated desk.

    In the Classroom

    1. Desks will be spaced as far apart as possible (Not less than 1m apart). Where pupils share a desk, a screen has been erected as a divider.
    2. Teachers will reinforce classroom safety rules and hygiene etiquette on a daily basis.
    3. No hugging.
    4. No sharing of any stationery, books, water bottles, food etc.
    5. Face masks to be worn at all times in the classroom and when moving between venues.
    6. Encourage regular hand cleansing.
    7. Pupils are not permitted to walk around the classroom.
    8. Only one pupil will be permitted to go to the bathroom at any given time. If the bathroom is already occupied, the pupil will need to wait outside until the bathroom is vacant.
    9. Teachers will be moving from class to class, not the pupils. Exceptions might be made for Media, Computers, Senior Maths and PE.
    10. Teachers are required to wipe their table with disinfectant before leaving the classroom.
    11. In the case of pupils moving to another venue, out to break or at the end of the day, they will be dismissed one at a time to maintain social distancing.
    12. Suitcases and lunch boxes will be stowed under or next to the child’s desk and chair.
    13. During the course of the school day, all common surfaces such as door handles and railings will be wiped down with disinfectant by our Support Staff.

    Break Times

    1. Areas for seating will be demarcated which will be at least 1m apart.
    2. At the beginning of break, pupils will be dismissed one at a time from their classrooms and will occupy one of the demarcated areas.
    3. Pupils may remove their mask during break time. It is advised to place the mask in a paper packet (not plastic) for safekeeping while having their lunch.
    4. Staff members will be on duty to monitor that pupils adhere to social distancing rules.
    5. Pupils need to remain in their demarcated area during break, unless they are going to the bathroom.
    6. At the end of break, pupils will line up in a staggered formation, at 1m apart from each other.
    7. Foot operated sanitiser dispensers will be positioned at strategic points in the outside areas to allow pupils to sanitise their hands before returning to class.
    8. For the purpose of social distancing, break times will be staggered.

    End of Day Procedure

    1. When school finishes, pupils will be dismissed one at a time and proceed to their allocated pick up zone.
    2. Pupils waiting for older siblings can wait at the Auditorium and be collected by their older siblings when it is time to depart.
    3. Staff will be on duty at the Auditorium.
    4. Staff members will be on duty to monitor spatial distancing in the various pick up zones.
    5. Parents are to remain in their cars.
    6. Pupils must be collected timeously and should not have to wait for parents to arrive.
    7. Pupils not collected on time will be escorted to the Security hut area and wait inside the gates until they are collected. No supervision is available at this area.
    8. School gates will be locked 15 minutes after the end of the school day.
    9. Once all pupils and staff have left, their classrooms are wiped with disinfectant and also sanitised using a fogging machine.
